We all know that the scope of artificial intelligence is expanding and evolving over time. It has been presented to us as a life transformation feature in many different ways.

The future smartphones are likely to revolve around jargons like Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Machine learning, etc. We can feel the aroma now itself.

Many smartphones companies in the market today stress themselves telling that their phone has AI functions. Even you may have heard about it.

But, what is the reality? Are these phones really baked with AI? Or these companies are trying to fool customers?

The word AI in smartphones has become a major marketing term for most companies. The hardware of our smartphones seems to reach its peak limit, but there’s far more potential with the software. The future will be much more fascinating to see the next revolution with the software.

Before understanding these things, it’s important to know little about AI.

What is AI? How is it going to affect us?

Artificial Intelligence(AI) is the replica of human intelligence processes by a computer system. It is the ability of a machine or computer system to learn and think by itself.

It is very difficult to frame a concrete definition of artificial intelligence as it is expanding and evolving over time.

We know that machines or computers cannot take a decision by itself. The intensity behind AI on a smartphone will be to take some decisions by itself. Google used AI on its Pixel 2 and Pixel XL model smartphone which enhances the photography experience.

While capturing an image from an AI-based smartphone, it basically recognizes the image captured. Suppose, you snap a photo of a flower, then your phone will automatically recognize which flower it is and bring out all the information related to it. Currently, this technology is in its initial stage.awefirst artificial intelligence

Whenever we come across the word AI, we normally hear two words i.e machine learning and deep learning. Machine learning is the ability of the computer or machine to learn and improve by itself.

While deep learning is a part of machine learning which imitates the working of a human brain in making decisions. It can emulate in processing data and create patterns which end up in decision making.

Virtual Assistants like Google Assistant, Cortana, Siri, Alexa, etc are all part of AI and machine learning. Currently, all major tech companies are now focussing on AI.

Many smartphone companies yell that their phones are AI-powered which is not. It has been possible only with some flagship phones. But the future will much more interesting and exciting.

Huawei’s latest processor Kirin 970 and Apple’s A11 Bionic contains a dedicated chip to handle AI computations internally. Using AI features in smartphones will let you distinguish between two different objects, optimize internal settings, increase security and many more.

According to Gartner, analysts predict that by 2022, 80 percent of smartphones shipped will have on-device AI capabilities. This will provide better services with data protection.

Gartner also stated that on-device AI will be able to provide more value to their customers.

User Authentication, Emoji Recognition, Natural-Language understanding, Augmented Reality, Audio Analytic are just a few examples.

Are companies misleading customers?

As I mentioned earlier, AI has just become a marketing buzzword. Only a few flagship phones are powered with AI. Smartphone companies are just throwing the word haphazardly. Companies do anything just to sell their products.

As I mentioned earlier, we are at the initial stage of this technology. There is very much potential with the technology. While most of our tasks in phones are cloud-based i.e information is somewhere stored in a cloud and then it redirects from there. It is believed that AI will make this possible directly on a device.artificial intelligence apple a11 awefirst

Apple’s iPhone X has a neural engine, which is part of the A11 Bionic Chip, capable of hosting some AI features like Animoji, which basically mimic’s a person’s expression. It creates a 3D image or map of a person’s face which is stored in neural engine chip.

The A11 bionic neural chip is capable of performing 600 billion operations per second, Apple claims at its inaugural launch event.                                                                         Image: wikipedia

With all these said, we come into conclusion that AI is much more than a buzzword-the future of AI is unmeasurable. It now depends on the manufacturing companies how they unlock all its potential.

  1. I was just searching for this info for a while. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your website. I wonder what’s the lack of Google strategy that don’t rank this type of informative sites in top of the list. Normally the top sites are full of garbage.
