- 1 Types of Digital Marketing
- 2 Conclusion
Types of Digital Marketing
As I’ve told you in the previous article, Digital marketing can be both Online and Offline.
Online digital marketing is done over the internet while offline is done without the internet. Today, 36% of the world population use smartphones with an internet connection and this number is increasing drastically.
People today spend most of their time with their smartphones. This shows the increase in the potential of Digital Marketing.
You probably might know SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. But do you know what to optimize and why?
6.7 million people publish their posts regularly and WordPress users alone publish 2 million posts every day. It’s an insane amount of content.
Now, what if I tell you to choose the best content out of all 2 million posts.
It’s difficult, right?
Even search engines like Google finds it difficult to select the best content out of it.
Here comes the need for optimization. The more optimized posts will appear on the top results of Google search(maybe another search engine) than the less optimized one.
What is the actual definition of SEO?
Search Engine Optimization(SEO) is the process or practice of optimizing your online contents so that it appears in the top results of any search engine for a particular keyword.
SEO is one of the strongest types in Digital Marketing as because you get organic traffic without spending a single dime.
SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing which is somewhat similar to SEO.
In SEO, you get traffic for free that is done by optimization while in SEM you pay for traffic or you buy paid traffics.
SEO can be very much time-consuming. On the other hand, SEM will give immediate results.
If you’re in a competitive business and don’t want to spend much time in optimization, SEM can be your best choice.
Google Adwords is probably the most common SEM, where you pay Google for displaying your results in Google Search.
See the difference between organic and paid traffic.
Content marketing is all about the contents. It can be in any form like texts, audios, images or videos.
The posts or images you share on Facebook is a type of content and you are doing content marketing targeting your friends.
Content marketing is with us for a long time.
Long time means even before the internet, content marketing was always the king.
You will get a clear idea after reading the definition of content marketing
“Content Marketing is a strategy that focuses on building a strong relationship with a target audience by giving them high-quality content which is relevant to them.”
Content Marketing is all about storytelling and nothing else. Humans have told stories for as long as they could speak.
Even a teacher teaching in school is doing content marketing by sharing his/her knowledge with the students.
Content Marketing is very useful in the long run. One who is good at telling stories, no matter the platform or context, will always win in the long run.
Social Media Marketing
I don’t think there’s any need for an introduction to social media. Currently, they are the fastest growing trend in the history of the world.
Social media marketing is a process of gaining traffic or attention to your product or services through social media.
There are over 4.1 billion social media users which comprise 54% of the entire world population.
People are so addicted to their mobile phones and the social media apps on them that they waste half of their time on these platforms.
This shows the potential marketing opportunity on these platforms. If you own a business and not marketing on social media platforms, you’re really missing it all.
It is the same for SEM where you pay for generating traffic. This is the fastest way(not the best) to generate traffic.
PPC or pay-per-click advertising is a digital marketing model where the advertisers pay for each time their ads are clicked.
All search engines and social networks provide the opportunity for PPC advertising. In search engines, the top results will be ads while in social networks these ads appear in the feed.
Facebook advertising is one of the best and cheap network for targeting a particular group of people.
I think most of you have heard of this term “Affiliate Marketing”. It is so popular these days.
For the ones who haven’t heard, let me tell you. It’s a commission based marketing where you give commision to marketers for every sale of your products.
If you want to know more about affiliate marketing in detail, you can check here.
On the other hand, affiliate marketers receive a commision from the merchant after every successful sale they make.
There are various platforms where merchants can list their products and marketers can find products they would like to sell like Clickbank, JVZoo, etc.
If you guys interested in Digital Marketing, most probably you have heard about email marketing. It is one of the most popular marketing ever.
If you’re a small business, email marketing is best for you. It is ca heap and easy process to reach directly to your audience.
With regular emails, you can create anurturinge relationship with your audience. You will even gain trust from your audience once they find value in it.
Some of you may be thinking now who reads emails now.
If you’re thinking that, you’re completely wrong. People check their mails at least once a day. If your heading is catchy or attractive, of course they will read your mails.
Just remember, don’t send random emails to your audience. Otherwise, you’ll be called spammy.
Viral Marketing is another type of Digital Marketing which can create an overnight success. It is very easy to make things viral today, thanks to all social media users.
But nobody knows which content is going to be viral. So, you need to understand your customers feelings first before creating any viral content.
Viral Content spreads like a virus, in other way, quickly from one person to another. The content should be attractive and unique so that everyone like to share.
Purple Mattresses Egg drop test ad went viral on facebook which sold them over millions of mattresses. Here is the clip of that video.
This may sound new to you, but the marketing technique is not new. In this marketing, you ask to people to promote your product or service who has huge followers like a film star.
Companies try to develop relationships with the influential people which helps them to create visibility of their product or service.
When it comes to online there are 3 major ways by which an influencer may help you.
#1. They can share information about your product in their social medias.
#2. They can either write an article on your product.
#3. They can even ask you to write an article and post on their website as a guest post.
Just like you see billboards of big companies on the street, there are also electronic billboards.
New York’s Time Square is the famous example of the electronic billboard. These electronic billboards are made of LED’s. Cost of renting a space in the electronic billboard can be about $1 million per year.
According to UNESCO, 75% of households in the world have access to radio.
Yes, friends! Radio still exists. There are about 44,000 radio stations worldwide.
An average listeners listens to the radio for at least 2 hours a day. People in western countries listen to the internet radio every single day.
Just like you guys, I also thought radio is dead. But no, it still works and many companies are spending a huge amount of money in it.
Podcasts are very popular nowadays as you can listen anywhere. Digital marketers are spending half of their time in creating podcast contents.
Do you guys have any idea about Phone marketing?
Researchers say that 80% of internet users own a smartphone and more people are accessing through their smartphones rather than PC or laptop.
The amount of money spending in desktop ads are declining day by day.
Phone marketing is not just done online. It is even done offline.
Everytime you visit a store or a mall, what is the first thing they ask you before billing your amount. Your phone number, Right?
Your phone number is one of the greatest asset for companies and stores.
They collect your numbers so that they can update you with all their new sales and discounts.
It’s a true fact that everyone loves a discount or free items. In order to avail of the discounted offer people tend to buy a lot of unnecessary things.
There are even more types of marketing which I haven’t disciussed like Inbound Marketing, Cause Marketing, Interruption marketing, Relationship Marketing, Storytelling, Market Segmentation, Article Marketing, Affinity Marketing… the list goes on. I will share these in the next article.
